West Indian culture stretches far beyond the islands of the Caribbean. Showing up and showing out in cities like Toronto, footballer Kadeisha Buchanan and photographer Jamal Burger connect with and celebrate their West Indian roots wherever they are, and no matter what they achieve.

Kadeisha Buchanan

Born to two Jamaican immigrants in Toronto, Canada, Olympic gold medalist, Kadeisha Buchanan, proudly represents her Caribbean roots, which have shaped her into one of the best players in the world.

As her own platform has grown, Sarain prides herself on inspiring and amplifying the stories of her fellow Indigenous people, with the hopes of sparking joy for the next generation of Indigenous youth.

"When I was younger I cared about being the center of attention, being up on stage and in the spotlight. And as I've gotten older and become a Mom I've realized that actually listening, having the ability to uplift those around you by giving them a microphone that lifts up every single song in your community, that's what's so important."
